Purpose
To create a Microsoft help file documenting Instagram for Android.
Details
Using the single-source authoring platform MadCap Flare, I created a well-indexed Microsoft help file (.chm) for Instagram. I performed an audience analysis and created two user profiles. I also performed a task analysis to determine how different user tasks could be grouped together.
I created an information architecture that included consistent titles for different types of topics. Using headings, dropdown text, and tips/notes, I grouped information into easily digestible chunks. The user could navigate to topics using the index, table of contents, or “See Also” links provided at the end of each topic.
The resulting help file was branded, easy-to-navigate, and focused on user tasks.
